This week we will focus on the additions and revisions of the root operation Extraction in FY2018 ICD-10-PCS codes.

The root operation Extraction was applied to new body systems, to specify fine needle aspiration biopsies and to other body systems, to specify non-excisional debridement of deep tissue layers, such as muscle and tendon.

New Tables for Extraction

In light of this application, new code tables have been added to the muscle (0KD), tendon (0LD), upper bones (0PD), lower bones (0QD) and gastrointestinal (0DD) body systems. Check for these new tables in your FY2018 coding references.

Lymphatic and Hemi System Revisions

In addition to new code table 0DD in the Gastrointestinal body systems, revisions were made to tables in the Lymphatic and Hemi Systems body systems for the root operation Extraction to include more body part values and additional approaches. These revisions were made to capture addiitonal detail for percutaneous aspiration biopsies and brush biopsies. Similar changes were made in the Respiratory System to include many more body parts with additional approaches for the root operation Extraction.
